The Department of Environmental Affairs released the draft Climate Change Bill for public comment on 8th June 2018. The purpose of the proposed Act is to ensure that South Africa is on a path to a “long-term, just transition to a climate resilient and lower carbon economy and society in the context of an environmentally sustainable development framework”. Therefore, the Bill is an important step for South Africa in acknowledging the importance of action in protecting the environment. As well as, addressing climate change vulnerabilities and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In particular, the Bill highlights the importance of an integrated and coordinated response to climate change across spheres of government.
